LARGO – A Largo man surrendered to deputies just after noon Oct. 14. He is accused of shooting his neighbor in the hand during a dispute that occurred just after 6 p.m. Oct. 13.
According to deputies, Tommy “Buzz” Preston, 47, threatened his girlfriend Alicia D. Hornak, 45, with a loaded gun and shot Johnny J. Holdcroft, 51, in the left hand following a dispute over the attention Holdcroft was reportedly giving Hornak.
Hornak and Preston are Holdcroft’s neighbors. They live on Clay Avenue in Largo.
Deputies say the group had been drinking. Preston fled the scene after the shooting, possibly on a motorcycle. Holdcroft was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with non- life threatening injuries. Deputies recovered the gun – a 44 caliber revolver – in the suspect’s residence.
Preston contacted his girlfriend Sunday morning and reportedly told her he wanted to turn himself in to deputies. Deputy Terry Trautman then contacted Preston, and further encouraged him to surrender. The two met at a location in the parking lot of the Criminal Justice complex off 49th Street in Clearwater. Preston was cooperative and taken into custody without further incident.
Preston was booking into the Pinellas County Jail on one charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, one charge of domestic battery and one charge of aggravated assault (domestic). As of noon Monday, bond had not been set.
