LARGO – Registration has started for the city of Largo Tree Fund’s “CommuniTree Tree Giveaway,” which will offer hundreds of free trees to residents.
Largo residents will be able to choose from a variety of trees that have been purchased through Florida nurseries to ensure they can tolerate Florida’s climate.
Registration started Nov. 1. The trees will be distributed starting in January.
The Largo Tree Fund is funded through impact fees assessed when a property owner or developer wishes to remove a tree from his or her property and does not replace it, according to city documentation. The money within the fund can only be used to purchase tree replacements within the city.
