LARG0 – Largo police say the woman who died in the Nov. 12 shooting at the Suburban Lodge in Largo was Lindsey Alexandria Castaneda, 27, of St. Petersburg.
Another woman – Bethany June Dunlop, 26, of Largo – remains in critical condition at Bayfront Hospital.
Largo detectives said their preliminary investigation indicated that Dunlop shot Castaneda and then tried to kill herself. Detectives are “confident that a third party was not involved in the incident and have not reason to believe the community should be concerned of an at large suspect,” according to a recent press release.
A .38-caliber revolver was found in the hotel room with the woman. Staff at the 6550 Ulmerton Road hotel told police that the two women were supposed to check out Nov. 12. When they didn’t, staff checked on the room that afternoon and found Castaneda dead and Dunlop critically wounded.
Police are still investigating the events that led up to the shooting. They believe that the two knew each other and were friends, according to reports.
