According to Pinellas County Sheriff’s detectives, Quilliams slashed and stabbed Compton multiple times with a sword. He was taken into custody just after midnight Jan. 16 after he was found in a cabin in Wears Valley, Tenn.
Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the homicide after deputies were called to the couple’s home on Stoneview Circle in Oldsmar about 4:46 p.m. Jan. 13. Deputies were advised that blood had been observed in the driveway and neighbors were concerned about the welfare of the homeowners.
Upon entering the home, deputies found that the living room floor was covered in blood. After further search of the home, they discovered Compton deceased in the garage. Deputies retreated and contacted detectives from the Sheriff’s Robbery/ Homicide Unit, who began their investigation.
Based on their investigation so far, detectives have put together the following timeline of events.
Neighbors said they saw Quilliams sitting in his car in front of the home between 8 and 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12, and described his demeanor as “weird.” Between 11 p.m. and midnight, neighbors reported they heard the couple arguing. Neighbor said arguing between the couple was not unusual.
Detectives say at 4:21 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, Quilliams booked a flight to Knoxville, Tenn. on Allegiant Airlines out of St. Pete Clearwater Airport. She also told officers that she had dropped him off at the Smokey Mountains National Park.
Through further investigation and in coordination with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, detectives learned that Quilliams might be in a cabin in the 3100 block of Valley Home Way in Wears Valley in Tennessee. Quilliams was located and taken into custody in the early morning hours without further incident by the U.S. Marshalls Service.
A sword believed to be the murder weapon was located and in the victim’s home in Oldsmar. Quilliams’ vehicle, a 2001 Black Nissan Ex-Terra located at the St. Pete Clearwater Airport, is being processed.
Detectives said Compton and Quilliams had been arguing over text messages sent by Quilliams to his ex-wife, Kristi Quilliams.
