PALM HARBOR – An Ohio woman was critically injured when she was hit by a car just before midnight April 27 on Alt. U.S. 19 just north of Alderman Road.
A report from the Florida Highway Patrol said that Amada Chakos, 28, of New Middletown was crossing Alt. 19 westbound near Alderman Road when she walked in front of a 2012 Honda Pilot, driving by Equbal Kalani, 53, of Dunedin.
The area was unlighted, and Chakos was not in a marked crosswalk. The impact caused Chakos to hit a second pedestrian, Lori Baker, 41, of Tarpon Springs. Chakos was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in critical condition. Baker was transported to Helen Ellis Hospital in stable condition.
The FHP report had “alcohol-related” check marked for Chakos. Charges were pending.
