PALM HARBOR – The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for the driver involved in a hit and run crash that occurred just after 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, on Belcher Road just north of Alderman Road.
The passenger in a 1999 Chrysler 300 was seriously injured. The driver fled the scene. FHP says the car is registered to Christopher Frank Dohmen, 24, who they describe as a “subject of interest.”
According to FHP’s report, the Chrysler was traveling southbound on Belcher Road “at a high rate of speed,” when the driver lost control of the vehicle as it passed through the intersection with Alderman Road.
The car sideswiped a 2014 Nissan Altima, being driven by Nicolas Diamantidis, 62, of Merrick, New York. After the Chrysler hit the Altima, it rotated clockwise, struck a curb, overturned and collided with a Duke Energy light pole. After hitting the pole, the vehicle continued to overturn for another 1,700 feet.
Ashley Love, 25, of Largo, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car. She was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital with serious injuries. Troopers report that she was last listed in stable condition.
The driver and two passengers in the Altima were transported to Florida Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and later released.
FHP troopers are asking anyone with information about Dohmen to call 813-631-4020.
