Fortunata “Fran” Cona named Auxiliary Member of the Year by the Marine Corps League.
PALM HARBOR – Fortunata “Fran” Cona of Palm Harbor was recently named the Auxiliary Member of the Year by the Marine Corps League, Department of Florida at their State Convention in Kissimmee.
An active member of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary since 2008, Cona is serving her second year as president of MCLA Unit 482.
The unit is sponsored by and actively supports the Morris F. Dixon, Jr., Detachment 54 of the Marine Corps League in Clearwater-Largo.
During her time with the Marine Corps League Auxiliary, Cona has volunteered at special events held at the Armed Forces History Museum in Largo that honored Wolrd War II, Korean and Vietnam veterans for their honorable military service to our nation. She has assisted in service projects involving Wounded Warriors and supported the Toys for Tots program. She has also assisted the Military Order of the Devil Dogs with providing meals to the homeless though the auspices of Pinellas County’s Project Hope.
Cona is also serving her third year as captain of the guard for the Department of Florida.
She and her husband Bill have recorded thousands of hours and miles in providing volunteer services and other contributions to our veterans or veteran-associated agencies.
Cona’s commitment to the Marine Corps League Auxiliary and the various projects to honor and support our military veterans, past and present, and our community projects such as Toys for Tots and Project Hope, has earned her the distinguished and well deserved recognition of Marine Corps League Auxiliary Member of the Year.
