Florida Orchestra quintet to perform
TARPON SPRINGS – The Florida Orchestra Brass Quintet will deliver some Christmas cheer with a virtuoso flair during a concert Sunday, Dec. 16, 2 p.m., at the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $22 and $18 members or students. The ensemble will perform Handel, Bach and a glorious fanfare of Christmas favorites such as “Joy to the World” and “White Christmas.” Known for their great versatility, entertaining narratives, and musical skill, the quintet is made up of Florida Orchestra regulars Robert Smith (trumpet), Kenneth Brown (trumpet), Andrew Karr (horn), Dwight Decker (trombone), and William Mickelsen (tuba). The Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center is at 324 Pine St.

Free movie presentation set for Dec. 18
TARPON SPRINGS – The Tarpon Springs Recreation Department will show the movie “New Year’s Eve” at the Tarpon Springs Community Center, 400 S. Walton Ave., on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 1 p.m. Admission is free. Seating is limited. Call 942-5628 for more information.

Popular opera coming to PAC
TARPON SPRINGS – The Florida Lyric Opera will perform “Amahl and the Night Visitors” Saturday, Dec. 22, 7 p.m., at the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center, 324 Pine St. The performance will be repeated on Sunday, Dec. 23, 3 p.m. The tender, heartwarming story of “Amahl and the Night Visitors” is one of the most popular American operas. Only an hour in length, the one-act English-language opera with its beautiful score and touching libretto appeals to all. It is a story of how faith, charity, unselfish love and good deeds can work miracles. Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center is at 324 Pine St. Tickets are $22. Admission for members and students is $18.

Concerts slated at Cultural Center
TARPON SPRINGS – The Jews of Tin Pan Alley with Lil’ Rev will perform Thursday, Jan. 3, 7:30 p.m., at the Tarpon Springs Cultural Center, 101 S. Pinellas Ave. Tickets are $16 and $14. Also, the Brothers will perform Saturday, Jan. 12 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $28 and $24. Call 942-5605.

Brothers Four to perform
TARPON SPRINGS – The smooth, musical sound of The Brothers Four will be featured Saturday, Jan. 12, 8 p.m., at the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center, 324 Pine St. Tickets are $24 and $28. The popular folk group has delighted millions for well over 45 years with hit songs “Greenfields,” “Try to Remember,” and “Across the Wide Missouri.” Since the early 1960s The Brothers Four have played thousands of concerts, sung at the White House, performed with symphony orchestras and jazz stars, and are currently touring as part of the “This Land is Your Land” live all-star folk concert tour, inspired by the recent PBS TV Folk Music Special.

Adult track club forms
TARPON SPRINGS – The Tarpon Springs Recreation Department is developing a new adult track club under the direction of coach Celia Dubey. The cost is $30 per month for city residents and $33.21 for nonresidents. Workouts are Wednesdays at 5:30 a.m. at Tarpon Springs High School. For more information, call 942-5628.

Duplicate bridge club meets
TARPON SPRINGS – A duplicate bridge club meets Fridays at noon at the Tarpon Springs Community Center, 400 S. Walton Ave. The fee is $3 and players must have a knowledge of bridge. Players must also have a partner to participate. A free social bridge club meets Mondays at 9:30 a.m. For more information, call 942-5628.

City offers yoga classes
TARPON SPRINGS – The city of Tarpon Springs Recreation Department offers Simply Now Yoga on Wednesdays, 7 p.m., at the Tarpon Springs Community Center, and Yoga & Stretch Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m., at Sunset Beach. Tai Chi classes available

Roller Derby team recruiting members
TARPON SPRINGS – Deadly Rival Roller Derby at Astro Skate is recruiting new skaters and referees. Learn what women’s roller derby is all about. Beginners are welcome. The group meets every Monday, 6 p.m. at Astro Skate, 875 Cypress St. Call 637-5003 for details.

Writers workshop offered
