City employee is charged with theft, mischief
PINELLAS PARK – A 41-year-old city economic development specialist was charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief in a dispute with her former boyfriend.

Shannon Do Coughlin is free on bail and served five days unpaid suspension from her city job.

She can face additional disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from her $55,272 job.

Her former boyfriend on Nov. 17 called St. Petersburg police to accuse Coughlin of breaking into his car and taking two cell phones.

The phones were returned in a bag containing dog feces.

Mailman assaulted for not picking up mail due to dogs
PINELLAS PARK – A U.S. Postal Service employeee allegedly was assaulted on Jan. 7 when he refused to pick up mail because three dogs were running loose in a yard.

Officer John Coleman said the letter carrier did not want to expose himself to danger when he spotted the animals at a home in the 9500 block of 57th Street.

The homeowner briefly spoke with the letter carrier. A few moments later, police said, his son, confronted the letter carrier. During the exchange, the youth allegedly slapped mail from the carrier’s hand, pushed and threatened him.

The matter was referred by the Pinellas-Pasco State’s Attorney’s Office for further investigation.

Pot in sock leads to arrest
PINELLAS PARK – Police responded to a dispute on Jan. 7 and wound up arresting a man after marijuana was found hidden in his sock, reports said.

Officer Michael Griffiths said he went to a home about 11:35 p.m. in the 4600 block of 87th Terrace to investigate a report of two people arguing.

Jackie T. Benham, 36, was sitting on the couch while talking with Griffiths. The dispute with his girlfriend was over a football game and a leaking water pipe.

While talking with Benham, police said, Griffiths spotted a plastic bag in his sock. The bag allegedly contained marijuana. Benham was charged with possession of marijuana.
