| Live animal acts will be a highlight of the Clyde Beatty Circus when it comes to town next month. |

PINELLAS PARK – A circus, complete with wild animals and live entertainment, will appear here for the first time in decades.
The Clyde Beatty Circus will make a three-day stop Feb. 16 to 18 at the England Brothers Band Shell field.
It is being sponsored by the Public Service Education Foundation that provides scholarships to graduating high school students who plan careers in community-type jobs such as in law enforcement, the medical profession and education.
The foundation is funded by municipal employee contributions. The foundation’s share from the circus will help finance and expand current programs.
Tim Caddell, city media director, said the circus will be the first to visit Pinellas Park in decades. He said a big top has not appeared here during the 30-plus years he has lived in the city.
“This is going to be a real extravaganza and a shot in the arm for the city,” Caddell said.
Besides the animal and human acts, Caddell said, audiences will be treated to live elephant rides.
Caddell said he is not sure if the public will be able to obtain free elephant manure that is made available in other cities where the circus performs. The fertilizer is said to be more potent than any commercial product.
No ticket prices have been announced, but an average admittance for a family of four is about $30.
“I think bringing in the event will make for a very entertaining three days,” Caddell said. “This is a very traditional circus for young and old alike.”
If successful, Caddell said, the circus will be booked for future performances.
Plans, meanwhile, for the March 17 “Country in the Park” event are being lined up with the signing on of country singers Dan Seals and Ronnie McDowell. The well-known songsters will be joined by several local bands.
“We believe this year’s park event will surpass all of the past ones at the band shell,” Caddell said.
Other plans will be announced in the near future, Caddell said.
