PINELLAS PARK – The City Council on Feb. 28 approved an ordinance that paves the way for the construction of a convenience store.
It was the second and final reading of the measure for a proposal to build the drive-thru store at 4931 94th Ave. The 3,356-square-foot structure will be on a 0.423 acre lot.
Part of the agreement calls upon the developer, Braulio Grajales, to repair a concrete wall on the property that over the years has been neglected.
On other matters, Vila and Sons Landscaping Corp. of Winter Garden was awarded a $105,333 contract to maintain the medians along Park Boulevard. Only seven of the 539 companies contacted presented bids. Mayor Bill Mischler said the project is being financed by a Florida Department of Transportation grant.
The council approved the purchase of seven laptop computers for a total of $36,869 from Insight Public Sector, Inc. of Lake Wales and seven mobile data modems for $18,830 from Motorola, Inc. of St. Petersburg.
Authorized also is the purchase of ballfield lighting for the Davis Field Complex. Himes Electric Co., Inc. of Lutz won the $144,513 contract. The project was approved due to woodpecker damage to wooden poles at the park.
The council approved annexations at 6125 105th Ave. and at 6154 and 6188 110th Ave.
Barbara G. Van Camp was appointed to the Recreation Board to fill the unexpired term of Pat Schwan whose term was to have expired in December 2009.
Councilman Rick Butler was named to a special committee examining plans to replace the heating and air conditioning system at City Hall.
