Purse snatchings on the rise
Article published on Thursday, March 6, 2008
PINELLAS PARK – Police warned women to be especially alert for thieves who are snatching purses in parking lots.

Officer Donna Saxer of the Crime Prevention Unit said several cases have been reported of women having their purses stolen while walking in the Wal-Mart Super Store on U.S. 19. The culprits drove by the victims and reached out the car window to take purses from shopping carts.

“People must always be aware of their surroundings, and never leave purses unattended,” Saxer said. “The handbags should be carried close to the front of the body.”

Saxer said essential items such as keys, credit cards and identification cards should be carried in pockets rather than in handbags.
