PINELLAS PARK - The city, together with the Pinellas Park/Mid County Chamber of Commerce, will kick-off Pride in the Park week with the residential weekend cleanup scheduled for Saturday, March 10, and Sunday, March 11.

This annual cleanup, once known as Sparkle Day, allows residents to demonstrate pride in their community by improving the appearance of their property. Residents may dispose of household trash and yard waste at one of eight drop-off sites located throughout the City.

The drop-off sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Disposal is free for Pinellas Park residents only. Please do your part to support Pride in the Park. Together we can make a difference.

The drop-off sites will accept only household trash and yard waste debris for disposal. Each drop-off site will have large open-top containers, one for household trash (non-putrescible waste, such as paper, cardboard, wood, bedding, etc.) and one for yard waste debris. These drop-off sites will not accept food waste. Please separate your yard waste from your household trash and deposit the material into the appropriate containers. The yard waste will be recycled into mulch. FREE RECYCLED MULCH is available at the City’s brush site located at 12950 40th Street. Please bring your own shovel and container and take as much mulch as you like. Please do not bring items such as food waste, automotive engine blocks, tires, automotive and marine batteries, used motor oil, antifreeze or hazardous wastes to the drop-off locations for disposal.

Household bulk items such as dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, water heaters, and ranges may be placed at the curb for collection on your regular trash collection days.

Refrigerators must have the doors removed or padlocked. For additional information about the weekend cleanup, please call the Utility Billing Division at (727) 541-0711, or visit their website at www.pinellas-park.com.

Note: City ordinance prohibits any person from throwing or depositing any garbage, trash, or refuse in any stream or body of water. Please report any violation of this ordinance to the city of Pinellas Park code enforcement section at (727) 541-0753. All discharges of oil, solvents, paints, and other like substances into any drainage storm water facility or structure (drainage inlets, manholes, detention ponds, ditches, lakes, etc.) should be reported to the Pinellas County hotline at 464-5060.

Do you have a junked car that needs to be hauled away? Please call Joe’s Towing at 541-2695, or L & J Auto Service at 544-2233 to make arrangements to have that old clunker taken away – free of charge – by either company.

Household electronics & chemical collections center (hec3): Pinellas County residents may bring household electronic and chemical waste to Pinellas County Utilities’ HEC3 facility for proper disposal or recycling. In addition, residents may pick up free donated household chemicals still suitable for home or community service projects at the HEC3 Swap Shop. The center is located at the Pinellas County Utilities Department of Solid Waste Operations, 2990 110th Avenue N., St. Petersburg. For information about HEC3, or recycling used motor oil, please call 464-7500, or visit www.pinellascounty.org/utilities.

Hours of operation: Monday, Tuesday, and Friday: 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Wednesday: Closed; Thursday: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.; third Saturday of the Month: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The HEC3 and Swap Shop are closed on all observed County holidays.

Acceptable Materials: Ammonium nitrate fertilizer, fertilizer, fungicide, pesticide, insecticide, herbicides, rat poison, weed killer, household chemicals and cleansers, paint thinners, paint removers, solvents, automotive transmission fluid, automotive fluids, wood preservatives, pool chemicals, household batteries, oil-based paints, small propane tanks, and household electronic equipment (camcorders, computer components, computer peripherals, microwave ovens, telephones, televisions, power supplies). This facility currently accepts discarded fluorescent lamp tubes and other household mercury containing devices.

Unacceptable Materials: Explosives, automotive/lead acid batteries, radioactive waste, biological/infectious wastes, large propane tanks. Any substance in quantities greater than two gallons or ten pounds. For proper disposal of used motor oil, residents and commercial businesses can call the Pinellas County Department of Solid Waste Operations at 464-7500.

When transporting household chemicals:

Keep products in original, sealed and labeled containers.

Do not mix chemicals together.

Place chemicals in leak proof containers.

When transporting bottled chemicals in boxes, place crumpled newspaper between bottles to prevent breakage. For leaky containers, use crumpled newspaper in boxes, or place container into clear plastic bag. Put boxes in trunk or back of vehicle away from passengers.

The HEC3 SWAP SHOP offers household chemicals and paints free to residents and government entities. All items brought to the Swap Shop are screened before they are offered back to the public. Although inventory varies, the Swap Shop usually has items such as: antifreeze, automotive cleaners, brake fluid, cleaners, disinfectants, fertilizer, linseed oil, lubricants, mineral spirits, paints, paint removers, strippers, thinners, power steering fluid, stains, polyurethane, varnish, transmission fluid, tung oil and turpentine. The Swap Shop does not provide fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, weed killers, pharmaceuticals or electronics. If you need a recycling container or your recycling container is damaged and needs to be replaced, please telephone the Utility Billing Division at 541-0711. A replacement recycling container will be delivered to your property at no charge. The recycling container remains the property of the city and is to remain with the property should you move or transfer your utility service.

Did you know: Residents may dispose of yard waste debris seven days a week at the Waste Management/City of Pinellas Park brush transfer site located at 12950 40th Street. Free disposal of yard waste is only for residents of Pinellas Park (proof of residency required). The attendant may also ask for a utility bill that shows the customer pays for garbage service through the City. Free mulch is also available. Bring your own container and shovel, and take as much as you like. The site is open Monday-Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For additional information, please contact the Utility Billing Division at 541-0711.
