Police find men living in dumpster
PINELLAS PARK – One of two men police found living in a dumpster was arrested after he fled police and later was found hiding in a truck.

Charged with resisting arrest without violence, burglary of a vehicle and violation of probation is Russell A. Sylvester, 41, no known address. Officer Tad Gaige responded to a complaint that men were living in dumpsters in the 4500 block of 110th Avenue. When police opened a large green dumpster they discovered two men inside with all of their belongings. Police said the men had been living in the dumpster for about four days. Officers said the transients fled on foot. Sylvester was discovered hiding in a parked truck and taken to the Pinellas County Jail.

City man charged with spreading HIV
PINELLAS PARK – A city man was arrested March 3 after having sex with a woman without telling her that he is HIV infected. Charged with one count of sexual intercourse with HIV without informing his partner, a felony, is Charles Hadfield, 22, a food service worker of the 5500 block of 65th Avenue. He is free on $100,000 bail. Last Oct. 13, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office records show, he was charged with two counts each of lewd and lascivious battery and lewd and lascivious exhibition. He was released from the Pinellas County Jail on $80,000 bail on those cases. Police said he was arrested for allegedly having sex with a 20-year-old woman he was dating without telling her that he had HIV. Police said the woman has since tested positive for the disease. Persons who may have had sexual relations with Hadfield are urged to call police at 541-0726.

Man is arrested after assaulting officer, K-9 dog
PINELLAS PARK – A St. Petersburg man was arrested Feb. 23 after he punched a policeman and later assaulted the officer’s K-9 dog. Charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, battery on a law enforcement officer, driving on a suspended license and two motor vehicle counts is Ronald D. Blakely, 27. He was freed from the Pinellas County Jail after posting $20,250 bail. Officer Cassidy Perry said the event began when he spotted Blakely’s car parked near the La Mark Motel at 6200 34th St. Perry later approached the suspect in the motel office. Moments later while the suspect searched his car for his wallet he allegedly hid several plastic bags of marijuana and cocaine in the center console. Police said Blakely attempted to run, but Perry grabbed his arm and was punched in the face. Using a remote door opener, Perry released his K-9, Rocky, who chased the suspect. The dog grabbed Blakely by the leg, but he escaped and was chased down a second time by the dog. The suspect allegedly kicked the K-9 in the face several times. Blakely was tasered and later treated at Northside Hospital for the bite wounds.

Woman arrested after she fakes pregnancy
PINELLAS PARK – A Largo woman was arrested Feb. 26 after she allegedly accepted $3,731 in living expense money from an adoption agency after lying about her pregnancy. Charged with grand theft is Tamra L. Farmer, 22. She was released from the Pinellas County Jail in $2,500 bail. Officer William Holmes said the suspect forged a medical certificate indicating that she was pregnant. She then approached Gift of Life Adoptions Inc., 4437 Park Blvd. The suspect, police said, admitted to faking the pregnancy in order to receive money from the adoption agency that agency authorities estimated to be $3,731.

K-9 helps in arrest of drug suspect
PINELLAS PARK – A city man was arrested Feb. 25 after allegedly assaulting a policeman. Charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia is Jeremy L. Sheppard, 25, of the 3500 block of 66th Terrace. Officer Martin Turner said he stopped the suspect at about 11:50 p.m. in the 6200 block of 34th Street. Turner discovered an alleged crack cocaine pipe and drugs while searching the suspect. The suspect, police said, then pushed Turner and ran off with the officer’s K-9 dog, named Dax, in close pursuit. The dog was able to chase down the suspect and he was apprehended.
