PINELLAS PARK – Three local artists won the Mayor’s Choice Award and will see their work displayed at City Hall.
The annual awards were presented at the Feb. 22 City Council meeting.
The winners were Richard E. Jansen for his watercolor, “Boca Ciega Bay;” Joan Scheffer for her oil painting of three raccoons, “Mischief Makers” and Bobbie Alford’s oil painting, “Autumn.”
“These are wonderful works of art,” Mayor Bill Mischler said. “It will be everyone’s privilege to see them hanging in City Hall.”
Jansen, a recent transplant from the Hudson Valley area of New York, is an award-winning artist whose works have been displayed all over the United States. He is a member of the Florida Fine Arts Guild, Student Art Club, Pinellas Park Art Society, Beach Art Center and Tampa Realistic Artists.
Scheffer has lived in the area since 1979 and has won numerous awards.
Alford’s love of nature includes landscape, flowers and still life art. Born in Georgia, she moved to Florida in 1957 and specializes in acrylic, water color, oil and prisma pencil. She also does miniature art on Christmas ornaments and china.
