PINELLAS PARK – The Financial Institution Security Officer Association recently recognized Pinellas Park police Detective Mike Bingnear and Detective Corporal Brian Fey Jr. with an award for the work they did leading to the arrest of a serial bank robber.
According to a press release from Pinellas Park police, Wells Fargo Corporate Security formed a bank robbery task force in 2013. Authorities had reason to believe that one individual was responsible for four bank robberies in Pinellas County that occurred between January and May 2013.
Bingnear and Fey were part of that task force charged with sharing and collecting information to try to identify the suspect. The task force also included members of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and St. Petersburg Police Department.
Working together, the task force was able to identify similarities in their cases, such as the suspect committing a carjacking prior to the bank robberies. The work eventually led to the apprehension of the suspect, Anthony Sutton, 38, of St. Petersburg.
Sutton was booked into the Pinellas County Jail July 1, 2013 on charges of carjacking, attempted carjacking, robbery with a deadly weapon or firearm and fleeing or eluding. Bond was set at $260,000. Sutton remains behind bars.
