St. Pete man surrenders in attempted murder case
PINELLAS PARK – A St. Petersburg man on April 5 surrendered at the Pinellas County Jail where he is being held without bail.

Charged with attempted first degree murder is Tamaa Taylor, 29. He is charged with shooting Gerund L. Long, 27, also of St. Petersburg, multiple times at a local motel.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies said the incident occurred about 10 a.m. on March 30 in the parking lot of the Sunny Moon Motel, 12600 U.S. 19 during an altercation between the two men. Taylor allegedly then fled the scene.

Taylor was fingered after a video camera on a PSTA bus showed the critically injured Long laying on the ground near the motel’s entrance. Taylor can be seen entering his 1995 Toyota Camry and leaving the area. The getaway car was later found in St. Petersburg. Taylor told police that the extensive media coverage and the video prompted him to surrender. Deputies did not disclose the reason or reasons that led up to the shooting, or if the two men knew one another prior to the incident. An investigation continues.

Woman robbed of lunch at gunpoint
PINELLAS PARK – A city woman on April 4 reported to police that someone took her lunch at gunpoint. Officer Noble Katzer said the victim, who was not identified, was peddling her bicycle on Park Boulevard and 57th Street at about 5 a.m. when a man shoved a gun in her face, pushed her to the ground and took her lunch bag. The suspect, described as a black male, was armed with a silver revolver. He escaped in a 1990s model Toyota Camry.

Man injured during dispute at motel
PINELLAS PARK – A St. Petersburg man was seriously injured by a suspect armed with a knife during a confrontation at a motel. The victim, who was not identified, was treated at Northside Hospital. Officer Scott Martin said the victim was slashed with a 12-inch knife at the La Mark Charles Motel at 6200 34th St. The victim was cut on the right hand as he raised his arms in an attempt to protect himself. Police said the cause of the dispute is unknown. The suspect was described as a white male, between 35 and 40 years of age and weighing about 240 pounds.

Man seriously injured in motorbike accident
PINELLAS PARK – A city man was seriously injured on April 1 when his motorbike crashed. Officer John Coleman said Russell Fraker, 24, of the 2800 block of 20th Street, suffered spinal injuries and had no feelings from his waist down.

Police said the victim was driving his motorbike on undeveloped land north of Park Boulevard when it apparently crashed into a ditch. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

Thieves break into shed at Elks Lodge
PINELLAS PARK – Thieves on April 3 forced their way into a storage shed and escaped with an undetermined amount of property. Officer William Holmes said Sgt. G. Lapouttre was on routine patrol at about 10 p.m. when he discovered the break-in of a shed owned by Elks Lodge No. 2217 at 7700 59th St. The culprits, police said, removed several screws from the west side of the shed. Two sections of metal siding then were pulled outward. It was not immediately known what, if anything, was taken. Police said about $1,500 in damage to the shed was reported.

Woman escapes injury when rock hits window
PINELLAS PARK – A woman escaped injury April 2 when someone tossed a rock through a window. Officer Scott Martin said the woman, who was not identified, was sleeping in her Belcher Road apartment at about 10:55 p.m. when someone threw a rock through the window of the master bedroom. The victim, who was not injured, said she had no known enemies.
