Man stabbed during home invasion
PINELLAS PARK – A city man was stabbed twice on April 30 when two robbers broke into his home. Andrew Mitchell, 58, was at home in the 7200 block of 59th Street when the suspects, described only as two white males, entered the house.

Motorcyclist killed in accident
PINELLAS PARK – A Seminole man was killed April 30 when police said he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a guard rail. Dead is John R. Wainscott, 27, who suffered multiple injuries to his torso, extremities and head.

Police said Wainscott at about 9:55 p.m. was traveling at between 90 and 100 mph in the 6100 block of Bryan Dairy Road when he lost control of his 2001 Honda motorcycle and crashed into a guard rail. The impact caused Wainscott to be ejected into a concrete light pole. Police said the victim landed more than 150 feet from the point of impact. The motorcycle traveled for nearly 400 feet before coming to rest in the eastbound lanes of Bryan Dairy Road.

All westbound lanes and one eastbound lane was closed to traffic for approximately three hours while police conducted their investigation.

Three arrested after robbery
PINELLAS PARK – Three suspects were arrested for allegedly robbing a pharmacy. Charged with one count each of armed robbery are Joseph T. Hollings, 18; Velislav Matzov, 20, both of St. Petersburg, and William R. Jaeger, 18, of Pinellas Park. Police said they were arrested in connection with the April 15 armed robbery of the CVS Pharmacy at 7101 Park Blvd. Police did not release any other details. The Pinellas Park charges stemmed from an investigation by St. Petersburg Police of an incident last week at the Blockbuster Video Store, 5200 66th St., in which one police undercover officer was shot.

Man escapes police custody
PINELLAS PARK – A city man escaped from police custody on May 1 while he was being treated at a local hospital, but was apprehended the next day. Allen J. Haggerty, 46, was arrested for dealing in stolen property and grand theft for allegedly stealing metal from a local company. Police said after his arrest the suspect complained of a leg injury he suffered in an unrelated previous incident. He was taken to Northside Hospital in Lealman. While waiting for a medical evaluation, police said, Haggerty escaped.

Police did not release details of the escape. Officers received a tip the next day as to the suspect’s whereabouts. Haggerty was apprehended following a brief struggle as he was leaving a home in the 5300 block of Pine Street.

Furniture store damaged by fire

Fire Chief Doug Lewis said the blaze at Discount Furniture at 78th Avenue and U.S. 19 began about 11 p.m. Heavy smoke prevented firefighters from ventilating the building to allow passage to the fire’s source. There were no reported injuries. Fire officials said most of the store’s merchandise and the building was damaged.
