Outdoor movies benefit fire fighters’ fund
Article published on Thursday, May 15, 2008
PINELLAS PARK – Pinellas Park firefighters are embarking on a new event to benefit the Pinellas Park Fire Fighters Benevolent Fund.

Each month they will present an outdoor movie at the England Brothers Band Shell. The free event will raise funds by selling popcorn, candy, hot dogs and soda.

“This is a great event for our citizens and for our benevolent fund,” said Nick DelGrosso of Fire Fighters Local No. 2193.

The only funding the benevolent fund gets is cooking at Country in the Park and union membership donations. The fund is used to assist fire victims and to finance holiday toy and dinner giveaways.

The tentative first movie will be on May 31 at around 7:30 p.m. Times will vary based on sunset. Firefighters are seeking a band or folk singer to donate their time. Also being sought are local businesses willing to assist in funding this event.

“It costs about $250 per movie to license it for outdoor viewing,” DelGrosso said.

All movies will be PG or G rated.
