Woman arrested on drug charges
PINELLAS PARK – Police arrested a 19-year-old female May 11 on drug charges after a traffic stop. At about 2:11 a.m., Officer E. Schroeder was dispatched to the intersection of 34th Street North and 58th Street North in reference to a warrant, reports said.

Lara Petrelli, the driver of a Hyundai, had an active warrant from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office for failure to appear on the charge of obtaining property in return for worthless checks. She was taken into custody and her vehicle was searched.

Police discovered marijuana, a glass pipe and two pills identified as alprazolam tablets. Petrelli admitted that the pipe and the marijuana were her property. She said she did not have a prescription for the pills but used alprazolam to treat her anxiety, police said.

Petrelli, who lives in Palm Harbor, was taken to the county jail and booked on her outstanding warrant, along with charges of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and possession of alprazolam. Bond was set at $2,813. She was released May 11.

Man arrested in domestic dispute
PINELLAS PARK – A domestic dispute led to an arrest of 23-year-old Pinellas Park man who allegedly threw a laundry basket toward a woman May 10.

At a residence in the city, Officer D. Butterworth spoke with a man who identified himself as Dion Rivera. The man said that he and two women were arguing, but ceased before police arrived. He said he lost his identification card in another town. Police called the complainant. The woman advised police that the suspect had a warrant for failure to pay child support and his name was Alexander Fernandes.

Police asked Fernandes why he provided a false name. He said he didn’t want to go to jail, reports said. He then provided his real name and date of birth. Police detained Fernandes until they could confirm there was a warrant issued for him.

When the complainant returned, she said the dispute started when Fernandes stepped on a roach and didn’t pick it up, leading to an argument. Because of conflicting statements, police did not charge the suspect with assault for throwing the basket, but charged him with providing a false name and date of birth to a law enforcement officer.

He was also arrested under the warrant and taken to county jail. He was released May 12.

Man arrested on battery charges
PINELLAS PARK – Police arrested a 19-year-old man on felony battery charges May 7 after he allegedly punched another man in a room at the La Mark Charles Motel at 6600 34th St. N.

Officer S. Martin was approached by a van on the evening of May 7 on 63rd Avenue. As the man approached him, the officer observed a three-inch gash on his left cheek that needed sutures. The man told police that he went to the hotel to visit his friend. The man said he was facing his friend when the suspect came from the bathroom and blind-sided him with a punch. The man said he was not sure why the suspect struck him.

Police spoke to the victim’s mother, who was driving the van. She said that her son’s lower molars were broken. Another witness told police that the attack was unprovoked, and the suspect was the person that punched the victim.

During questioning at the hotel, the suspect, identified as David James Cash, 3512 Beechwood Terrace, Pinellas Park, started raising his voice, saying he was the victim.

When police put him in a squad car, he became more enraged, reports said, and he began kicking the inside of the driver’s side rear door. He was transported to county jail. Bond was set at $1,000. He was released May 12.

The victim was taken to Northside Hospital.
