PINELLAS PARK – Two branches of Fifth Third Bank, one on 66th Street and the other on 49th Street, were robbed in two days.
On May 17 at about 11 a.m. a lone man walked into the bank at 7770 66th St. and gave a note to a teller that demanded money. Police said the suspect told the teller, “I have a gun. I’m serious, no dye pack,” referring to an explosive that renders cash stained and useless.
Police said the robber then escaped with an undetermined amount of money. A suspect was apprehended the next day in Orlando. He was not identified due to an ongoing investigation.
The next day, police said, another Fifth Third Bank branch, this one at 11030 49th St., was robbed of an undetermined amount of money. Police said the lone suspect produced a note demanding money and escaped on foot.
That particular bank, police Capt. Sandy Forseth said, was the last one robbed by the infamous “Band-Aid Bandit” who was later arrested and charged with more than 30 bank robberies in Pinellas County and other areas.
No injuries were reported at either bank, police said.
