Pedestrian struck by car on U.S. 19
PINELLAS PARK – An 87-year-old man was seriously injured on June 4 when he was struck by a car while crossing a highway.

Charles Olmstead was transported to a local hospital with various injuries. No charges are expected to be lodged against the driver, Christopher Rickling, 17, of St. Petersburg. Police said Olmstead was crossing U.S. 19 near 94th Avenue at about 10 a.m. when he was struck. The southbound lanes of U.S. 19 were closed for several hours while police conducted their investigation.

Woman arrested for theft
PINELLAS PARK – A Pinellas Park woman was arrested after she allegedly used her grandfather’s ATM card to steal his money. Erica L. Wilkerson, 19, was charged with grand theft. She remains in the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail. Police said Wilkerson admitted to using her grandfather’s bank card to withdraw a total of $447.05 over three days. Wilkerson told police the money was used to purchase marijuana and food for her and her friends.

Motorist arrested for DUI
PINELLAS PARK – A Kenneth City man was arrested after he allegedly almost struck a police car with his truck. Angel L. Melendez, 54, was charged with DUI. He was released from the Pinellas County Jail in his own recognizance.

Police said Melendez was operating his 1984 Toyota pick-up truck in the 11500 block of 66th Street when he failed to stay in his lane and almost struck a police cruiser. Melendez was arrested after he allegedly failed a field sobriety test.

Alleged shoplifter arrested
PINELLAS PARK – A Largo man was arrested after he allegedly tried to leave a store without paying for merchandise. David M. Gardner, 43, was charged with retail theft. He was released from the Pinellas County Jail in his own recognizance. Police said Gardner was at the Wal-Mart Super Store, 8001 U.S. 19, when he allegedly removed three DVDs from their packaging and hid them in his pocket. He was stopped by store security officers, police said.
