June 30: A tour of the Pinellas Park Fire Department. Learn about fire safety, equipment and the life of firefighters.
July 1: Wii Wednesday from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Come for Wii gaming, snacks, and board games.
July 7: Great Explorations and the wonders of life is a program about exotic animals.
July 8: Introduction to computers, equipment and concepts, 2 p.m. Registration is required.
July 8: Special Session Computer Class, 7 p.m., Subjects to be covered include how the Internet works and web pages.
July 8: Japanese encounters from 6 to 8 p.m. Experience a sampling of popular Japanese snacks and games. Enjoy a presentation by Chris Breward of Bushido Karate Academy, including Japanese weaponry, way of life, and a demonstration. Registration necessary.
July 13: Introduction to Microsoft Windows, Part 1, 2 p.m. Registration is required.
July 14: Bushido Karate Academy. Learn how to build muscles, fitness and bully buster techniques. Demonstration included.
July 15: Introduction to Microsoft Windows, Part 2, 2 p.m. Registration is required.
July 15: Teen art class at 3 p.m. Learn how to design and apply your own henna tattoo. This traditional form of Indian art is applied with henna paste and may stay on the skin up to three weeks. Participants must have the permission slip signed by parents.
July 20: Introduction to the Internet, 2 p.m. Registration is required.
July 21: Giving Tree Music Drum Circle with Stene Turner. Discover the history and magic of drumming by making some noise at the library. Become impassioned by Steves experience in a drum circle. Everyone will get the chance to drum, sing and play music together.
July 22: Introduction to Microsoft Word, Part 1, 2 p.m. Registration is required.
July 24: Superheroes event from 7 to 10 p.m. Trivia, a comic book drawing workshop, a heroic scavenger hunt, comic book swap, gaming, a costume contest, food and more. Registration is necessary.
July 27: Introduction to Microsoft Word, Part 2, 2 p.m. Registration is required.
July 29: Introduction to Microsoft Excel, 2 p.m. Registration is required.
Aug. 12: Special Session Computer Class, 7 p.m. Subjects to be covered include how to create a Web site.
Sept. 9: Special Session Computer Class, 7 p.m. Subjects to be covered include what to sell and locating items on eBay.
Oct. 14: Special Session Computer Class, 7 p.m. Subjects to be covered include how to purchase items on eBay.
Nov. 11: Special Session Computer Class, 7 p.m. Subjects to be covered include how to set up and use a blog.
Dec. 9: Special Session Computer Class, 7 p.m. Subjects to be covered include blogs and RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds.
Special programs
Creative Theater and Stories: Thursdays at 2 p.m. Library staff and volunteers will present stories in unique and fun ways. Programs include storyboarding, puppetry, theater and storytelling. There will be a craft or game at each program. Collect tokens by attending book sharing programs and by reading books. Spend tokens for prizes at the summer bazaar on July 30.
Teen activities
Plug In Your Library: A teen summer reading program through July 31. Just choose books you like to read and fill out a short form available at the Youth Services Desk. Anyone who enters is eligible to win gift certificates in a weekly drawing.
Mosaic Teen Art Showcase: Through July 31. Express yourself through your favorite medium. Entries include fiction or nonfiction essays (1,500 word limit), poetry, photography and black ink or pencil artwork. The winning entries will be included in the third annual publication of Mosaic, a countywide teen magazine.
Weekly programs
The following is a list of childrens programs available through December.
Story Time: Tuesdays at 10 a.m. for children 3 to 5 years of age.
Mother Goose: Tuesdays at 10:45 a.m. and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. for children to 3 years old and their parents. Activities include rhymes, finger plays, stories and songs.
Evening Mother Goose: Thursdays at 7 p.m. for young children and their parents. Programs include short stories, songs, finger plays and simple crafts.
Reading Patch Club: Tuesdays at 3 p.m.
Sign Language Class: Thursdays, 3 to 4 p.m. through Aug. 20.
