PINELLAS PARK – A Clearwater woman was charged with child neglect July 14 after leaving her 19-month-old child locked in the car while she shopped at Target.

Officers determined that the mother, Vita Abramenkova, 35, had been inside the store for 40 minutes without a way to monitor the child or the vehicle. Police say that the mother admitted leaving the child in the car and was arrested on one count of child neglect.

Police said that the ground temperature was 92 degrees, and the with the humidity, it was 101.
Abramenkova reportedly told officers that her daughter had been asleep when she arrived at Target and she didn’t want to wake her up. The child was released to her father. Abramenkova was booked into the Pinellas County Jail. She was released Tuesday morning on a $2,000 bond.
