Man arrested for stealing clothing PINELLAS PARK – A homeless man was arrested on July 21 for allegedly stealing clothing he said was needed so he could attend church services.
Although he also allegedly gave police a wrong name, David N. Jarrett, 20, was identified by a facial recognition computer at the Pinellas County Jail.
Jarrett was charged with retail theft, two counts of possessing oxycodone, possession of cocaine, valium and Xanax, resisting a merchant, providing false information to a police officer and grand theft auto. He also has a fugitive warrant from Texas.
Jarrett was being held at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $28,500 bail.
Police said Jarrett was at the Wal-Mart Super Center, 8001 U.S. 19, at about 2:50 p.m. where security officers allegedly saw him attempt to walk out without paying for approximately $113 worth of clothing.
Police said the suspect fought with security officers, was handcuffed, and again fought with store detectives. He identified himself to police as Christopher Notty. Due to a prior arrest, however, the suspect’s real identity was discovered at the county lock-up.
Police said Jarrett told officers he needed clean clothing so he could attend church services.
Man arrested after illegally driving a second time PINELLAS PARK – A St. Petersburg man was arrested on July 18 after first getting a break, and then being caught a second time for driving an unregistered vehicle.
James R. King, 26, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of oxycodone, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving without a motorcycle endorsement. He was released from the Pinellas County Jail in his own recognizance.
Police said King was stopped the first time at about 7:30 a.m. while driving a 1981 Kawasaki. Further investigation revealed that King did not have a drivers’ license endorsement to operate a motorcycle and that the license plate was assigned to a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle.
Police confiscated the license plate, but did not impound the cycle because it was being driven off a public roadway. Police said King was ordered to park the cycle.
Police said about 30 minutes later King was stopped again, this time in the 7600 block of U.S. 19. A further search allegedly revealed the drugs and paraphernalia.
