PINELLAS PARK – The City Council on July 24 approved a preliminary site plan for a boat building and paper recycling company.
The facilities will be opened on a 21-acre plot at 6101 45th St., an M-1 light industrial zone that abuts residential districts.
A representative said annually about five high-end boats will be constructed on the property. The spokesman said the area would be used as a paper drop-off point with the actual recycling being accomplished at another location.
In other matters, the council approved an ordinance that rezones a parcel of land at U.S. 19 and Gateway Centre Boulevard from a preservation district to a B-1 general commercial district.
The 0.42-acre portion of the land in question is actually a small pond on a 7.5-acre plot that will be filled in.
The council also accepted the resignation of Elizabeth Herron from the board of adjustment and appointed Councilman Rick Butler as a voting delegate to the annual conference of the Florida League of Cities that will be held Aug. 14 to 16 in Tampa.
