PINELLAS PARK – A local activist wants the City Council to pass an anti-immigration measure similar to the one that was defeated last week in Avon Park.
Randy Heine, who lost his bid for the mayor’s seat in March, on July 27 distributed copies of the Illegal Immigration Relief Act that was rejected by Avon Park authorities.
That measure would have empowered local officials to stop illegal aliens from doing business in Avon Park. Violators would have faced fines of not less than $1,000.
Heine told the Pinellas Park council that a similar ordinance needs to be passed here.
Some council members refused to accept the copies of the ordinance that Heine passed around.
Several members of the audience endorsed Heine’s remarks. One was Joe Shelly, a veteran of World War II, Korea and the Vietnam conflicts.
The council is not expected to act on Heine’s proposal.
