PINELLAS PARK – More than 150 youngsters of all ages on July 25 enjoyed a “Christmas in July” party at the Boys and Girls Club.
The highlight of the event was a visit by Santa dressed in shorts and a tropical shirt.
Lighthouse Credit Foundation donated 180 backpacks filled with school supplies and other gifts.
“We launched the program three years ago and it become a very popular event,” Darin Ulrich, vice president of Lighthouse, said. “We are giving back to the community.”
Stephanie Toelken, club spokeswoman, packaged the summer Christmas party. She said the club sponsors different programs during the year to keep children active.
Besides Lighthouse, many other businesses and individuals donate time and gifts such as food, toys and clothing. Contributions are always welcome and can be left at the club building located at 7790 61st St. N.
“Our goal is to inspire and enable our youth to achieve their highest potential to make them productive and caring citizens,” Toelken said.
The club provides a positive and safe place for children to attend summer day camps and after-school activities and participate in abuse prevention, athletic and mentoring programs.
