PINELLAS PARK – The city will soon have a new attraction ... an all-aluminum, 1,200-pound piece of art called “Heart of Pinellas.”
The work will be installed later this month at Park Station, 5851 Park Blvd., and may be one of a series of pieces donated free of charge.
Created by local artist Clayton Swartz, the piece represents Pinellas County with the city symbolized by the heart as the middle of the county. The bands and supports represent roads and bridges.
“It is about 99 percent complete, but there still is work that needs to be done,” Swartz said.
It will be moved to the front of Park Station sometime this month. It will not be dedicated officially until December.
The art project is part of a city program to reinvent Park Boulevard, especially the area around Park Station, as a tourist draw. A historical park is currently under construction and a new farmer’s market is open on Mondays.
