Reward for swan killer climbs to $2,000
PINELLAS PARK – The reward for the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for killing a white swan at Shadow Run Apartments has climbed to more than $2,000.

Local business leaders and individuals have contacted the apartment complex to voice anger over the senseless killing.

Janet Mauldin, Shadow Run business manager, said three little girls appeared at her office with $9 they collected. Other contributions came from as far away as Miami.

“If the people who committed this deed are not captured the money will go toward the purchase of another set of swans,” Mauldin said.

The mate of the dead bird, Mauldin said, is still mourning and is losing its tail feathers. It is expected that the surviving swan will die.

“Swans mate for life and this bird still swims alone in the lake as if looking for its mate,” Mauldin said.

Persons with information are asked to call Pinellas Park police or Mauldin at 530-5471.
