Pinellas Park High School Blue Stars Marching Band is ready to go at the 2010 Holiday Parade.
PINELLAS PARK – More than 150 floats, bands, community groups, businesses and local leaders are set to participate in Pinellas Park’s 39th annual Holiday Parade this year.

The largest holiday in Pinellas County will take off from Park Boulevard and 58th Street at 6 p.m. and travel about 1.5 miles, ending at the Shoppes at Park Place.

The theme this year is “The Fabulous Fifties.” Not all the groups in the parade incorporate the theme, but are encouraged to do so.

“We have a lot of interest in these year’s theme,” said Ricky Butler president and operations director for Celebration Pinellas Park, the group that organizes the parade. “A lot of groups have been into the 50s.”

The Pinellas Park Boys and Girls Club will be dancing in the style of the decade, for example, he said.

This year’s parade will start with enactors from the 97th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.

Costumed participants include the Suncoast Ghostbusters, traveling with Fantasy Costumes; the Krewe of Conquistadors of Tampa Bay; Uptown Clowns of Largo and the Star Wars-themed 501st Legion.

Some groups will be returning to the parade this year after not participating in prior years, including the St. Petersburg International Folk Fair Society and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Butler said.

Sunstar Paramedics will be making an appearance in the parade for the first time.

Bands marching this year include ones from the Pinellas Park High School, Dixie Hollins High shool, Lakewood High School, Osceola High School, Classical Christian School and Seminole High School. The Florida Twirling Institute will march with batons.

One group has been participating in every parade in its 38-year history, Butler said. The Pin-MAR Antique Car Club will return again this year. Carrie’s Dance Gallery has been participating for more than 25 years.

Many other groups have been in the parade for more than 15 years, a credit to the parade’s importance in the community, Butler said.

As is tradition, the Pinellas Park Kiwanis Club will conclude the parade, bringing Santa and his sleigh along with them.
