PINELLAS PARK - Pinellas Park Police officers responded to the Walmart store at 8001 U.S. 19 N. Dec. 18 in reference to a theft in progress.
According to the police report, the officers were responding to a report that a man suspected of theft had brandished a knife and threatened the staff while he was attempting to flee from them.
Officers observed the fleeing subject and ordered him to stop. The subject continued to flee while officers gave chase. The subject fled into the wooded area in the 8800 block of U.S. 19, traveling west.
A Pinellas Park Police Department K-9 unit was called to assist in the search for the subject. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office was contacted and provided aerial support. The suspect was located by a Pinellas Park Police Department K-9 unit and Scott Allan Lyelee, 30, of St. Petersburg was taken into custody without further incident.
Lyelee was charged with aggravated assault, felony petit theft and resisting an officer without violence. Lyelee was transported to Pinellas County Jail.
Lyelee was released from Marion Correctional Institution Dec. 10, 2012, where he served less than two years for grand theft.
