PINELLAS PARK – The Pinellas Park/Mid County Chamber of Commerce will launch a new “Friends of the Chamber” program that is expected to draw retired business people and former executives who can share their knowledge with others in need of assistance.
Ray Fisher, who will become chamber president in January, outlined the plan during the Dec. 6 board of directors meeting.
“There are many people with great ideas who have a wealth of knowledge about business,” Fisher said.
The idea is to draw people into the chamber who want something to do in their retirement years and wish to contribute their knowledge to the business community. The annual membership is only $50 and for that they get to participate in many chamber activities.
Ethel Mudd, chamber president, said the idea is to have experienced retired businessmen and women to act as mentors to individuals just starting out. She said the retirees would volunteer their services by providing information on such subjects as marketing, sales techniques and finances.
“We will form a committee to help struggling businesses by using retirees who have been there,” Mudd said. “Their knowledge and guidance can and will mean the difference between success and failure.”
Participants also would help at various chamber functions such as meetings, grand openings, at networking events and seminars.
Those interested in participating in the program should contact the chamber of commerce offices at Park Station, 5851 Park Blvd., Pinellas Park, or call 544-4777.
