City firefighters are cited during Arts Center ceremonies

PINELLAS PARK – Several hundred people were on hand Dec. 17 as firefighters were honored and promoted.

Chief Doug Lewis presented awards to:

• James Jackson, a civilian, for helping to free a woman who was trapped under a pickup truck. When Jackson spotted the situation last April 30 he ran back to his place of employment and returned with a forklift. He lifted the vehicle from the woman so paramedics could work on her.

• Guy Keirn was named Firefighter of the Year for 2007 due to his “multitude of achievements” with the fire service.

• Nick Del Grosso finally received his Fireman of the Year award from 2006. It was the first time he was available to receive the award.

• Douglas Sliger was named Employee of the Year for 2007 due to his work in training other firefighters on the use of various equipment.

• Elliot Carhart was named Paramedic of the Year. He was credited with saving the life of a 40-year-old man who had suffered a heart attack.

• Richard Mansure received a 25-year service award.

• Steve Pelo retired in May.

• James Dowdy retired this month.

• Raymond Hansen was promoted to deputy chief of life safety management.

• Guy Keirn was promoted to district chief of training.

• Jeremie Larson was promoted to lieutenant paramedic.

• James “Chris” Brooks was promoted to lieutenant/EMT.
