Pow Wow Parade applications
SEMINOLE – The city of Seminole Recreation Division is seeking participants for the 42nd annual Seminole Pow Wow Festival Parade, set Saturday, March 13, 10 a.m. to noon.

There is no cost to participate. However, applicants must be approved in advance. Deadline for applications is Feb. 19. Contact Duane Crandall, recreation program coordinator, at 391-8345 for application or download online at www.powwowfestival.com.

Kiwanis Club of Seminole Breakfast meeting
SEMINOLE – Phyllis Frolich, a board member of Adventure Amputee Camp, will be the speaker at the Kiwanis Club of Seminole Breakfast meeting Jan. 12, 7:15 a.m., at the Seminole Family Restaurant, 6864 Seminole Blvd. Frolich will discuss the camp, which provides an annual week of camping and motivating challenges for children who have lost a body limb through disease or accident.

Meetings are held each Tuesday morning and feature informative guest speakers from local business, government and nonprofit organizations on a wide range of topics. Senior luncheon
SEMINOLE – The monthly senior luncheon is Tuesday, Jan. 19, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Seminole Recreation Center. The theme is Mardi Gras and will include a Jambalaya meal with entertainment by the Grandmother Rockettes. The cost is $8 a person. The movie matinee is “Angels and Demons” with Tom Hanks. Anyone with a Seminole resident card can buy tickets for others.

Health expo vendors
SEMINOLE – The city of Seminole Recreation Division is seeking vendors for the ninth annual Fit Over 50 Health and Wellness Expo Jan. 28 at the Seminole Recreation Center, 9100 113th St. N. The event generally draws more than 500 and is limited to the first 50 vendors. Cost for vendors is $35 to $45. Call Duane Crandall at 391-8345 for application information.

Baby Derby
SEMINOLE – Seminole Recreation is hosting its 12th annual Baby Derby on Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Seminole Recreation Center. The babies will be competing for ribbons, trophies and prizes. Judging will be in three age groups: Newborn to nine months, 9 to 10:15 a.m.; and 10 to 18 months, 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Some of the categories that the babies will be judged in are cutest smile, parent look-a-like, chubbiest cheeks and perkiest personality. The cost is $5 per baby. A Seminole Recreation membership card is not necessary to participate. Participants should R.S.V.P. to Dan at 391-8345 or if you have any questions.

Freaky Friday
SEMINOLE – The Seminole Recreation Division is offering a “Kids Night Out” program called Freaky Friday on Jan. 8 for children in kindergarten through fifth grade and younger children ages 4 to 5. This month’s theme is “Party Like A Rock Star.” The program starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 11. Call 391-8345.

Hoops Challenge
SEMINOLE – The city of Seminole Recreation Division will host a free 2010 Hoops Skills Challenge Feb. 20 at the Seminole Recreation Center. The event is open to boys and girls, ages 9 to 14. Boys and girls participate separately and may compete in up to three levels of competition including the national finals in Orlando. Each participant will have the opportunity to showcase his or her dribbling, passing and shooting skills across a time-based, half-court obstacle course. Registration continues through Feb. 12. Largo-Seminole Women’s Bible Study
SEMINOLE – Largo-Seminole Women’s Bible Study will explore the Old Testament book of First Kings with a 17-week study beginning in January at Seminole First Baptist Church, 11045 Park Blvd. N. This book is the story of the reign of King Solomon and the tempestuous times that followed his death, and includes the message and miracles of Elijah the prophet. The opening coffee will be Thursday, Jan. 14, 9:25 to 11 a.m. The organization is nondenominational. There is no fee and child care is provided. Call Marguerite at 474-7139 or Carol at 398-1254.

Lake Seminole Presbyterian homecoming celebration
SEMINOLE – The community is invited to the annual homecoming celebration set for Saturday, Jan. 16, noon to 4 p.m., at Lake Seminole Presbyterian Church, 8505 113th St. The event will include indoor games, outdoor games, hot dogs, chili and baked goods. Call 391-5509 or visit lakeseminolepc.org.
