SEMINOLE – A 23-year-old former Seminole man, who was originally arrested in connection with the murder of his mother and then released on his own recognizance, was arrested again and charged with first-degree murder Jan. 20 following his testimony before a Pinellas County grand jury.
Kevin Lee Kyne of Seffner is accused of the strangulation death of Diane Kyne, 49, of 8918 134th St. N., Seminole, following an altercation in her home on Aug. 15.
Upon receiving the indictment, Judge Frank Quesada immediately revoked Kyne’s ROR and issued a warrant for his arrest on the murder charge. Kyne was taken into custody without incident in front of the courthouse as he waited for a ride.
He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail without bond.
According to a sheriff’s report, deputies arrived on the scene shortly after 3 p.m. on Aug. 15 following a 911 call. They found Diane Kyne dead in a bedroom.
William Kyne, 53, who owns the home and is the stepfather of Kevin Kyne, was home at the time.
Kevin Kyne was not at home when deputies arrived but was found at a neighbor’s house.
Detectives said Kevin Kyne was not cooperative during the initial interview process but charges were brought based on other evidence and information.
Those charges were later dropped and Kevin Kyne was released when investigators learned both William Kyne and Kevin Kyne had placed calls to 911 to report the crime.
Kevin Kyne accused his stepfather of the murder and William Kyne said it was Kevin Kyne.
Investigators said the three were in the home arguing about computer use and about the parents’ recent decision to give Kevin a month to move out of the home.
Kevin Kyne has three prior arrests. Prior to the murder, he was most recently arrested in February 2010 and charged with possession of marijuana, violation of probation and battery on a law enforcement officer.
In July 2007, he was arrested and charged with domestic battery, criminal mischief and battery on a law enforcement officer. In May 2007, he was arrested and charged with resisting arrest with violence.
Diane Kyne’s death marked the second time a wife of William Kyne has died in the same house. Krista Kyne, 44, was found dead in the home’s swimming pool in 2000. Foul play was not suspected.
