SEMINOLE – A Seminole girl suffered serious injuries when a car struck her after she exited her school bus about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at 81st Avenue N. and Ridge Road.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the bus was facing northbound on Ridge Road with its lights activated and flashers engaged when nine or 10 kids exited, including Jacqueline M. Jeffery, 12, of Seminole.
Taygeti Christos Rigakos, 69, of Seminole failed to stop for the bus and instead attempted to pass in a no passing zone, and allegedly struck Jeffery just as the student cleared the front of the bus, the FHP said.
Jeffery was taken to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. The FHP said her condition was stable.
Rigakos was issued a traffic ticket for passing a school bus with lights activated.
