SEMINOLE – The former Don Pablo’s Mexican Restaurant at Tyrone Boulevard and Park Street will soon be developed into a new CVS Pharmacy.
The Seminole City Council voted unanimously Feb. 23 to preliminarily approve a development agreement that will allow for the demolition of the current structure and the construction of a new store.
A second and final public hearing on the development agreement is set for Tuesday, March 9.
Once the former Don Pablo’s building is torn down, it will be replaced with the 14,713-square-foot drug store, which will offer 82 parking spaces.
Mark Ely, community development director for Seminole, said the development agreement took months to hammer out because of complexities.
The biggest hurdle, he said, was replatting of two parcels at 8275 and 8305 Bay Pines Blvd., owned by separate parties in the Tyrone Market Place shopping center.
The developer is KB Tyrone LLC of Clearwater for CVS Caremark Corp., of Woonsocket, R.I.
Ely said the city hopes to find businesses to take over two other sites in the shopping center where the former Shell’s Seafood restaurant and Lone Star Steakhouse were located.
In other action, councilors:
• Approved on second reading the annexation of a home at 11665 91st Terrace N.
• Passed an ordinance on second reading that approves budget amendments to increase various accounts related to funds not spent in the fiscal year 2009 budget. The funding amounts to $5.7 million, which the majority is targeted for the two Public Works buildings currently under construction on 70th Avenue.
• Voted 5-1 to pass an ordinance on first reading authorizing budget amendments to decrease accounts in the city clerk’s office and increase the salary account in the city manager’s office. During the Feb. 9 meeting, the council approved a change from part time to full time for the administrative assistant position in the city manager’s office. Due to a three-month vacancy in the city clerk position, surplus funds were available in the city clerk’s office budget to fund the additional expense of the administrative assistant. Councilor Patricia Plantamura voted against the measure.
• Unanimously passed a resolution establishing a procedure for electing a vice mayor.
• Passed a resolution approving the appointments of 21 residents to the Pow Wow Festival and Parade Committee.
• Authorized City Manager Frank Edmunds to enter into an agreement not exceeding $210,000 with the architectural firm Fleischman Garcia of Tampa for the final design plans for the replacement of Fire Station No. 32, 10780 110th Ave. N. The city recently applied for grant funding to replace the structure. Fire Chief Dan Graves said the grant money, if approved, would come from the federal stimulus package. Four years ago, the council approved funding the design of a prototype fire station for placement throughout the city.
• Gave approval to Edmunds to enter into an agreement with the U.S. Census Bureau to provide space in the Seminole Recreation Center for use as a questionnaire assistance center from March 19 to April 19.
