Welcome to the 45th Annual Pow Wow Festival and Parade! We have a lot to offer this year at our annual community-wide festival, Friday through Sunday, March 8-10.
The 45th Pow Wow Festival will again be the result of a lot of hard work by a volunteer committee of community members. These folks have volunteered countless hours to assure that this event is extra special. I would like to especially recognize the following 2013 committee members for their efforts:
• Sponsorship Committee, Susan Sousa • Festival Parade Committee, Duane Crandall, Doc Kinsey, Bill Barbosa and Jacob Valintine • Entertainment Committee, Kacy Little, Dorie Michalik and Jacob Valintine • Volunteers/Hospitality, Dottie Reeder, Jelene Mingo, Carolyn Smith, Jerry Milot, and Barbara Allen Liberatore • Festival Ecology, David Kinsey and Greg Michalik • Public Relations/Marketing, Jacob Valintine and Becky Gunter • Chamber of Commerce, Gretchen Wells • St. Petersburg College, Dorie Michalik • Seminole Historical Society, Jimmy Vines • Friends of the Library, Stephanie Sand and Jean Cowan • Hospice of the Suncoast, Niki Pasek
The Pow Wow Festival Committee continues to engage Seminole-based civic organizations to enhance the overall festival experience. In 2013 we have community partners that include the Rotary Club of Seminole (beer garden), Seminole Chamber of Commerce (promotions), St. Petersburg College (parking), Kiwanis Club of Seminole Breakfast (pancake breakfast), and Seminole Kiwanis Evening Club (truck pull competition).
As always, the festival will showcase its community through the “Support Our Troops” theme of the festival parade. This year the parade expects to see many wonderful community based parade units that will include businesses, local civic groups, nonprofit organizations, churches, and many youth groups. New this year is the Tropical Flip Flop Trot that will lead the parade in a 1-mile fun run of flip flops and tropical attire. For parade and Tropical Trot information, visit the new redesigned website at www.powwowfestival.com.
The traditional carnival midway will again include a separate carnival area for our younger attendees. The Planning Committee has scheduled some terrific musical entertainment for your listening pleasure.
Opening Friday night’s entertainment is a band that has shared the stage with such acts as the Charlie Daniels Band, Vince Gill, Marshall Tucker Band, Montgomery/Gentry, Bertie Higgins, and the David Muse Band. We are proud to have Pinellas County’s own Slickside taking the stage at 8 p.m. Band members of Slickside have most recently completed a recording project with legendary music producer Jack Douglas, who has produced such legends as John Lennon and Aerosmith to name a few. This is going to be a great show you do not want to miss.
Saturday’s featured entertainment will start with the Panakolada Steel Drum Band performing at noon, followed by The Outpatients at 2 p.m., which will be playing your favorite 1990s tunes and local favorite “Troy Duncan Band” will perform at 5 p.m. At 8, the 2013 main entertainment stage welcomes Exit 28, a rock cover band that takes pride in getting the crowd on the dance floor. Ending a great day of fun will be festival fireworks at 8:45 p.m. Eagle Crest Realty and New Penn Financial will present this year’s show.
While here on Saturday morning, you will want to join the Seminole Kiwanis Club for its annual pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. in the Recreation Center Auditorium. Returning this year is the Seminole Historic Society’s Mini Museum in the Recreation Center Lobby.
Returning on Sunday to Family Fun Day will be the Kiwanis Club of Seminole showcasing the sixth annual Fire Truck Pull competition, along with a variety of community youth groups performing on the festival stage. Also performing on stage Sunday is local teen talent Rebekah Reid and Connect2Christ Church Band.
Special thanks to our festival sponsors: Authentic Martial Arts, Connect2Christ Church, Faith Presbyterian Church & Preschool, Eagle Crest Realty, Harts Home Services, New Penn Financial, Seminole Beacon, Senior Connection Magazine, Waste Management of Pinellas. We appreciate them as partners and major sponsors of the 2013 Pow Wow Festival.

Lastly, the Seminole Pow Wow Committee would like to thank the city of Seminole and especially the Public Works Department and Recreation Division for all the hard work they put in during the preparation of this annual community event.
