SEMINOLE – A new, community outdoor event designed to showcase Seminole area restaurants is planned in early May.
The inaugural Taste of Seminole is set for Saturday, May 3, 4 to 10 p.m. in the parking lot outside Treasure Island Fun Center, 7770 Seminole Blvd.
The event, which is being put together by Meehan Special Events of Seminole, will feature 12 restaurants and two other businesses providing ice cream.
The participating restaurants are Road House Grill, Mo’s Southwestern Grill, Greek Village Restaurant and Deli, Blowfish Sushi Bar, Fujiyama, Caribbean Cafe, The Pie Factory at Tucson’s, Moonigan’s Family Sports Pub, Seminole Family Restaurant, Fortunato’s Italian Pizzeria and Restaurant, Villa Galluce Italian Restaurant and the Surf and Turf Market.
“We already have Taste of Pinellas at the end of June and it’s a three-day event,” said Scott Meehan, organizer of the event. “I just thought a one-day event makes it easier for smaller restaurants that don’t have a lot of manpower.”
Meehan said he got the idea after talking to residents of Seminole who frequent restaurants outside of Seminole.
“I thought this would be a good opportunity to showcase our local restaurants to local residents,” said Meehan. “I see it getting bigger in years to come, possibly closing down a street for it or moving it to the (Seminole) mall.”
In addition to plenty of good food, the event will feature the live music of Espree deKor and discounted games for kids at the Treasure Island Fun House, Meehan said.
Restaurants will sell food in proportionate amounts, ranging in price from $3 to $6.
Beer will sell for $3, a blonde ale for $4 and wine for $4. Soda and water also will be available.
Proceeds from the event will be split with the Seminole Chamber of Commerce, which will help out with beer and wine sales.
