Relay For Life set at Osceola High
SEMINOLE – The American Cancer Society hosts its annual Seminole Relay For Life event at Osceola High School Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25.

The 18-hour event begins Friday at 6 p.m. with opening ceremonies, which will be followed by a dinner catered by Carrabba’s Italian Grille for cancer survivors. A luminaria ceremony is planned at 9 p.m., honoring those that have successfully battled cancer and remembering those whose lives have been lost. Money raised from the event goes to the fight against cancer. For more information, call event chairwoman Joanne Hannay at 415-2606 or ACS staff partner Christine Hartman at 812-7026.

Landscaping program planned
SEMINOLE – The Unincorporated Seminole Homeowners Association hosts a program on Florida friendly landscaping at its next meeting Thursday, April 30, 6:30 p.m., at the Seminole Community Library, 9200 113th St. For further information, call Dot Miller at 392-3082.

Luncheon slated for former Bay Pines employees
SEMINOLE – A luncheon for all former Bay Pines VA Hospital employees is set for Saturday, May 2, at Banquet Masters, 8100 Park Blvd. Cocktails will be served at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at noon. The cost is $19 a person. For more information, call 397-8232.

Volunteer van drivers needed
SEMINOLE – Bay Pines VA Hospital Voluntary Services needs van drivers for its morning and evening shifts. Drivers will shuttle patients to and from the hospital to various locations in Pinellas County. For more information, contact Charles Clark at 398-6661, ext. 4686 or 5466.

Jazzercise classes start
SEMINOLE – Jazzercise classes are now available at the Seminole Recreation Center. Jazzercise is a 60-minute workout that fuses dance and muscle toning movements, choreographed to music. The cost is $32 a month and includes three classes a week. Classes are Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m. For more information call 391-8345.

Step aerobics offered
SEMINOLE – A step aerobics class is back at the Seminole Recreation Center under the direction of instructor Amanda Collins. All ages and fitness levels welcome. Classes are on Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. Cost is $5 per class. Participants must have a Seminole Recreation card. Call 391-8345 for more information.

Bridge club
SEMINOLE – City recreation officials are working on starting a bridge club with play on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Free for those with a recreation card. Call Dan at 391-8345.

Bauder musicians to perform
SEMINOLE – Bauder Elementary School’s strings musicians will perform Thursday, April 23 at 5:45 p.m. at the school during a spaghetti dinner. The school jazz band will follow at 6 p.m. and the Seminole Middle School strings at 6:15 p.m. Bauder’s third, fourth and fifth-grade drummers will perform at 7 p.m.

Bauder Science Camp slated
SEMINOLE – The eighth annual Summer Science Camp is set July 13 to 16, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Bauder Elementary School, 12755 86th Ave. N. The camp offers hands-on science activities studying earth, life and physical science; computer technology, arts and crafts, and outdoor games. The camp is open to students currently in kindergarten through fifth grade. The fee is $100 which will help to fund science lab projects at the school in 2009-10. SHS ’66-69 reunion set
SEMINOLE – A Seminole High School reunion combining the classes of 1966 to 1969 is scheduled on Saturday, June 6. Plans call for class members to meet at the middle of the John’s Pass Boardwalk at 10:30 a.m., go to the beach, eat lunch at John’s Pass and catch up on past memories. Kite Day set at Bauder
SEMINOLE – Bauder Elementary School hosts Go Fly A Kite for Peace on Monday, April 27 in conjunction with physical education classes. The purpose is to focus thoughts on the need for everyone to be nice to one another in an effort to achieve world peace. Students are reminded to bring kites to school that day.

SHS Class of ’89 plans reunion
SEMINOLE – The Seminole High School Class of 1989 hosts its 20-year reunion June 19-20. A gathering with a “Vegas on the Beach” theme is planned Friday, June 19, at Caddy’s on the Beach in Treasure Island, followed by a day gathering by the pool Saturday, June 20, noon, at the Sirata Beach Resort. Tribute To Teachers planned at middle school
SEMINOLE – The Seminole Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual Tribute to Teachers Breakfast Thursday, April 23, 7:30 a.m., at Seminole Middle School. The event is used to thank area teachers for all they do.

This year’s honorees are Bardmoor Elementary, Marilyn Haniak; Bauder Elementary, Angela Robbins; Bay Pines Lutheran, Sarah Underwood Boehme; Blessed Sacrament, Linda Susens; Indian Rocks Christian School, Terri Lynn Affleck; Keswick Christian School, Sarah Ibs; Madeira Beach Elementary, Diana Calhoun; Madeira Beach Middle School, Dave Taglirini; Oakhurst Elementary, Laurel Waters; Orange Grove Elementary, Martha Gusky; Osceola High School, Ernie Wahlen; Osceola Middle School, Gerald Popjoy; PARC, Michele Hill; Seminole Elementary, Peggy Neal; Seminole High School, Susan Wolodkowicz; Seminole Middle School, Brooke Schwartz; Seminole Vo Ed Center, John Veenstra; St. Petersburg College, Faride Trujillo; and Starkey Elementary, Robert Franck.

One teacher, representing each of the 19 schools in the Seminole area, will be recognized at the breakfast, along with the school administrator.

This year’s master of ceremonies will be Pinellas County Clerk of the Court Ken Burke and local student Meagan Gillespie will be the guest speaker. There also will be musical entertainment. The cost of the hot breakfast buffet is $10 a person. To sponsor a nominated teacher, it is an additional $25. For more information, call the Chamber office at 392-3245.
