SEMINOLE – Lightning may have contributed in the death of a construction worker about 4:26 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
Agustin Navarrete-Guerrero, 40, of Tampa was working on the construction of condominiums at the Bayou Grande Community, 7245 102nd Lane N. in Seminole. As thunderstorms moved through the area, his roommate and co-worker went over to their vehicle to shut the windows and found Navarrete-Guerrero face down in muddy water. He was unresponsive.
Deputies said fellow workers called 911 and dragged Navarrete-Guerrero to the garage of a condominium under construction. They attempted CPR to no avail.
Seminole Fire rescue responded and pronounced him deceased on scene. The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death. Preliminary information is that lightning may have been a factor in the death.
