SEMINOLE – A new fire engine and construction of the city’s proposed Public Works/Emergency Operations Center facility on 70th Avenue top the list of budgeted capital improvement projects on the city’s proposed 2008-09 budget.
The fire engine, a new advanced life support vehicle, will be purchased in 2009 for $365,000 through a joint city-county fund. Existing revenue consists of $173,322 from the county and $65,743 from the city, which will be matched in 2009 with $91,303 from the county and $34,632 in allocated CIP funds from the city.
The new fire engine will replace Engine 31, which will become the city’s reserve unit. The current reserve vehicle, a 1988 Gator engine, will be sold.
Future plans call for other ALS engines to be replaced in 2012, 2016 and 2019. The department’s 2006 Pierce squad truck will be replaced in 2019.
Plans to replace radio equipment and a 2000 Pierce Aerial engine with a Telesqurt ALS engine have been postponed until 2016.
The biggest outlay will be $5.75 million for the construction of the city’s Public Works garage and storage facility, as well as a separate administration office and EOC building. Both will be built on the site of the current headquarters for Seminole Fire Rescue at 11195 70th Ave.
The new buildings will be constructed with funds from Penny for Pinellas sales tax. Architectural design and planning will be paid for with $405,640 in allocated funds from the current CIP budget.
Other proposed capital improvement expenditures in 2009 include:
- $100,000 in existing CIP funds to St. Petersburg College for its proposed Habitat Park on the Seminole campus.
- $60,000 in existing CIP funds for street sign replacement.
- $75,000 in Penny for Pinellas funds for roadway resurfacing.
- $565,905 in existing CIP funds for drainage improvements in conjunction with the Drainage Master Plan, which is currently being prepared.
- $155,000 in Penny for Pinellas funds for construction of restroom facilities at Tennis Club Park.
