SEMINOLE – Pinellas County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the discovery of an injured man in the front yard of his rented Seminole home.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, Stephen L Wiecht, 56, was found by deputies sent to his home on Oakhurst Road about 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, July 30. Wiecht was transported by medical helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with non-life-threatening cuts to his body.
Sgt. Jim Bordner, public information officer, said that detectives found a chair inside the home which had been set on fire. He said the fire, which caused some heat and smoke damage to the interior of the home, apparently extinguished itself.
Detectives also found and seized 95 marijuana plans of various sizes along with equipment used to cultivate the plants.
Wiecht was arrested on an outstanding Polk County warrant for cultivation of marijuana. Bordner said Wiecht would eventually be transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
Detectives said the investigation would continue and that additional charges are pending. No suspects are being sought at this time.
