Local agencies clean up at the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon. According to the sheriff’s office, the motorcycle crashed into a truck pulling a trailer with a pontoon boat that was turning into War Veteran’s Memorial Park on Bay Pines Boulevard in Seminole.
SEMINOLE – A 20-year-old Ruskin man died from injuries suffered in a crash about 2:49 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, on Bay Pines Boulevard near the entrance to War Veterans Memorial Park in Seminole.

According to deputies, Robert Sterner, 67, of Seminole was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra, pulling a trailer with a pontoon boat westbound on Bay Pines Boulevard. As Sterner was making a left turn into the entrance of the memorial park, Justin Johnson struck the passenger’s side of the truck with his 2004 Honda motorcycle.
Johnson suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported via ambulance a local hospital where he later died. Johnson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Sterner and four passengers from the Tundra were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. According to an eyewitness report, the truck came to rest against the large concrete sign for the park. Due to extensive damage to the truck, the driver had to be extricated by fire rescue personnel. Seminole Fire Rescue, Madeira Beach Fire Department, Lealman Fire Rescue, Sunstar Paramedics and PSCO responded the crash.
Deputies said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the incident.
