SEMINOLE – The Florida League of Cities recently chose Seminole Mayor Leslie Waters as the Home Rule HERO 2013 for her outstanding legislative advocacy, protecting the home rule rights of residents of Seminole, watching out for the taxpayers of Seminole, and for monitoring legislation impacting municipal citizens throughout Florida.
During the 2013 legislative session in Tallahassee, Mayor Waters took her own personal time and resources to advocate both the Florida Senate and the Florida House of Representatives. Her focus was one of several legislative bills and initiatives that would have been detrimental to the budget of the City of Seminole.
Mayor Waters, a former state legislator, appreciates the fact that legislators have scores of important issues to deal with each Legislative Session.
“It is crucial that local government officials educate legislators on issues of importance to cities, the government closest to the people,” she said.
Her efforts were critical to the grassroots advocacy of the statewide FLC and the Tampa Bay region’s Suncoast League of Cities.
