SEMINOLE – A quiet Seminole neighborhood is in shock following the murder of a 49-year-old woman at her home.
According to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office report, Diane Kyne, 134th St. N., died from upper body trauma on Aug. 15.
Her 23-year-old son, Kevin Kyne of the same address, was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
William Kyne, 53, who owns the home and is the stepfather of Kevin Kyne, was home at the time.
“It’s a sad situation,” said neighbor Nila Gregory. “Diane was very friendly and her son would bring our garbage cans in (from the street) for us.”
Gregory said William Kyne was also very cordial and often offered to help her family with household projects.
According to the sheriff’s report, deputies arrived on the scene shortly after 3 p.m. on Sunday following a 911 call. They found Diane Kyne dead in a bedroom.
Kevin Kyne was not at home when deputies arrived but was found at a neighbor’s house.
Detectives said Kevin Kyne was not cooperative during the initial interview process but charges were brought based on other evidence and information.
Investigators said the three were in the home arguing about computer use and about the parents’ recent decision to give Kevin a month to move out of the home.
Kevin Kyne has three prior arrests. He was most recently arrested in February and charged with possession of marijuana, violation of probation and battery on a law enforcement officer.
In July 2007, he was arrested and charged with domestic battery, criminal mischief and battery on a law enforcement officer. In May 2007, he was arrested and charged with resisting arrest with violence.
No further details were available.
An autopsy of Diane Kyne was scheduled Monday. The investigation continues.
