SEMINOLE – Pinellas County Sheriff’s Major Accident Team is investigating a fatality crash that occurred just after 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, on Bay Pines Boulevard. just west at 95th Street North in Seminole.
According to deputies, the driver of a 1999 Buick was traveling westbound on Bay Pines Boulevard at a high rate of speed. The driver then attempted to pass a vehicle on the right by driving on the right shoulder and sidewalk, which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The Buick then began to slide sideways, crossing the center median and striking a 2014 Toyota Prius, which was traveling eastbound on Bay Pines Boulevard. After hitting the Prius, the Buick came to a rest on the wall bordering the Bay Pines VA Hospital.
The driver of the Buick, Jordan A. Schleimer, 21, of St. Petersburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Prius, Roberta L. Cycotte, 47, of Port Charlotte, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Deputies said speed was a factor; however, it was unknown at this time the report was released if alcohol or drug impairment were also factors in the crash.
Eastbound lanes of Bay Pines Boulevard were closed at 100th Way for several hours during the investigation.
