Student council helps fulfill girl’s wish SEMINOLE - Cynthia Lake, executive director of Children’s Dream Fund, recently presented a plaque to Blessed Sacrament School Principal Chris Wiand. The plaque recognized the student council’s effort in raising almost $600 for the Children’s Dream Fund. Student council members sold Chick-fil-A calendars to students and their families in order to sponsor a “dream come true” for 4-year-old Collaysha Longstreet. She was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor and wished for a princess birthday party. She was granted her wish at Great Explorations which included a castle cake, princess Barbies and a visit from Cinderella and Snow White.
Library to host dental seminar SEMINOLE - Denture wearers and those struggling with loose dentures may benefit from a dental information seminar featuring Dr. Richard Borgner, Wednesday, Sept. 15, 3:30 p.m., at the Seminole Library. Borgner will give a presentation about bone grafting in the jaws and dental implant placement. He will also explain about several studies that help defray some of the expense of treatment for those who qualify. While the lecture will focus on dental rehabilitation for missing teeth, questions will be answered on all phases of dentistry. The library is at 9200 113th St. Call 535-6400.
Writing classes scheduled at recreation center SEMINOLE - Writing Your Life History will be offered by author Rosiland Miller on Saturdays, beginning Sept. 18, 1 to 2 p.m., at the Seminole Recreation Center. The eight-week course will teach participants how to preserve their most precious memories and life history of their family. The course also will teach the basics of writing and how to write the stories of their life for their loved ones to enjoy in years to come. The course fee is $25.
Creative Writing for Fun and Profit is for those who love to write, may be considering writing a book and to learn the ropes of how to get their work published. The class will meet Saturdays beginning Sept. 18, from 2 to 3 p.m. for eight weeks. The fee for the course is $25. Preregistration is required, as well as a recreation membership card.

James Rogers to perform at Seminole First Baptist SEMINOLE - James Rogers will perform Saturday, Sept. 25, 7:30 p.m., at Seminole First Baptist Church. Rogers is known for his award-winning country-gospel, ’50s rock ’n’ roll and patriotic music. Tickets are free and are required for admission. Osceola PTSA to host a night of laughs SEMINOLE - The Osceola High School PTSA is sponsoring a fundraiser with the Coconuts Comedy Club, Sunday, Oct. 24, 7 p.m. The night will be filled with professional comedians, food, drinks and a raffle. Plans announced for Veteran's Day activities SEMINOLE - The city in association with the Pinellas County Veterans Liaison Council and the St. Petersburg College will host the 2004 Pinellas Veteran’s Day Parade and Ceremony, Thursday, Nov. 11. The parade formation will start at 8 a.m. on 80th Avenue, just north of Seminole Mall. The parade will step off between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. and go north on 113th Street.
The formal ceremony at 11 a.m. will be at the new library located at the St. Petersburg College on 113th Street next to the Seminole Recreation Center. All civic and veterans organizations are invited to attend and take part in this gala event. Many floats and marching units will be taking part in the parade. Many of the local active duty military branches also will take part. The guest speaker for the formal Veteran’s Day ceremony will be retired Army Maj. Gen. David Hicks.
