SEMINOLE – A 15-year-old girl died Sept. 3 from injuries she suffered in a Labor Day watercraft crash at Lake Seminole Park.
According to a report from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a serious accident in the waterway at the park about 1:43 p.m. Deputies said Douglas Yale, 44, of Seminole had been driving a 19-foot Key West center console boat that was towing Katie Yale, 15, and Audree Franz, 13, on a towable tube. As he pulled the young children on the tube, Ryan Godcharles, 21, operating a Sea Doo personal watercraft, collided with the inner tube sending the two girls into the water.
Both children were immediately taken to a local hospital. Yale sustained life threatening injuries and died the next morning. Franz had minor injuries and Godcharles did not suffer any injuries. Deputies said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the incident.
